The current campaign targets appropriate language referrals at 18 months of age in conjuction with the Well Baby Visit. A referral IS appropriate for a child who is 18 months of age and is not showing one or more of the following:

• 20 consistent words
• functional use of an object
• follows simple directions like "sit down" or "come here"
• points to body parts
• uses gestures
• holds a book and turns pages
